Problem C. 1365. (September 2016)

C. 1365. A square is drawn over each side of a regular \(\displaystyle n\)-gon, on the outside. The outer vertices of the squares form a regular polygon of \(\displaystyle 2n\) sides. How many sides did the original polygon have?

Megoldás. A szomszédos négyzetek azonos csúcsból induló oldalai a külső szabályos sokszög megfelelő oldalával szabályos háromszöget alkotnak, így a négyzetek oldalai \(\displaystyle 60^{\circ}\)-os szöget zárnak be egymással.

Ezért a belső szabályos sokszög egy szöge:

\(\displaystyle 360^{\circ}-60^{\circ}-2\cdot90^{\circ}=120^{\circ}.\)

A belső szögek összege \(\displaystyle n\) csúcs esetén:

\(\displaystyle \left(n-2\right)\cdot180^{\circ}=n\cdot120^{\circ},\)

amiből \(\displaystyle n=6\).

Tehát az eredeti sokszög hatszög.
