Problem C. 960. (November 2008)

C. 960. A rectangular sheet of paper is folded along a diagonal. The four corners now form a trapezium with three sides of equal length. How long is the shorter side of the original rectangle if the longer side is 12 cm?

Megoldás: Mivel AB'C\angle=90o, ezért B'C<AC, és így a három egyenlő oldal: AD=DB'=B'C. Ezért B' illeszkedik DC felezőjére, és így AB felezőjére is. Vagyis AB'=B'B. Mivel AB=AB', ezért ABB' szabályos háromszög. Az A csúcsnál AC felezi a 60o-os szöget. Az ABC derékszögű háromszögben legyen BC=a. Ekkor AC=2a, AB=a\sqrt3, amiről tudjuk, hogy 12 cm. Vagyis a téglalap rövid oldala: a=\frac{12}{\sqrt3}\approx 6,93 cm.
