Megoldás. Az első egyenlet 3-szorosát hozzáadva a második egyenlethez kapjuk, hogy:

9x²+6xy+y²=25.

Az egyenlet bal oldala teljes négyzet:

(3x+y)²=25.

I. eset: 3x+y=5, innen y=5-3x. Ezt az első egyenletbe beírva kapjuk, hogy:

3x²-x(5-3x)=1,

6x²-5x-1=0,

amiből x₁=1, x₂=-1/6; y₁=2, y₂=5,5.

II. eset: 3x+y=-5, innen y=-5-3x. Ezt az első egyenletbe beírva kapjuk, hogy:

3x²-x(-5-3x)=1,

6x²+5x-1=0,

amiből x₃=-1, x₄=1/6; y₃=-2, y₄=-5,5.
