Megoldás. A távolságok felvázolásával láthatjuk, hogy mivel \(\displaystyle 5+35=40\), így a mandulafa az almafa – diófa útvonalon fekszik. Továbbá \(\displaystyle 5^2+12^2=13^2\), így a Pitagorasz-tétel miatt az almafa – diófa útvonalról derékszögben ágazik el a mandulafánál az út a körtefához. Ezért aztán a körtefa, a mandulafa és a diófa szintén egy derékszögű háromszög csúcsaiban helyezkednek el, így a körtefa a diófától \(\displaystyle \sqrt{12^2 + 35^2}=37\) lépésre van.
