Megoldás: A nagy hatszöget, és a kis hatszöget is daraboljuk fel az ábrán látható módon:

Az ábráról leolvasható, hogy a nagy hatszög területe 18 kis háromszög területével egyezik meg. A kis hatszög területe 6 kis háromszög területével egyezik meg, de a szürke részben egy-egy háromszög hiányzik a hatszögekből, tehát a szürke rész területe 30 db kis háromszög területével egyenlő. Így a szürke és vonalkázott területek aránya 30:18, azaz 5:3.
