B. 4362. Each vertex of a solid cube is cut off. The faces of the resulting polyhedron are 8 triangles and 6 heptagons. What are the possible numbers of vertices and edges of such polyhedra?

Megoldás. A testnek \(\displaystyle \ell=14\) lapja van. A lapoknak összesen \(\displaystyle 8\times 3+6\times 7=66\) éle van. Mivel minden él pontosan két lapot határol, az élek száma \(\displaystyle e=66/2=33\). A csúcsok \(\displaystyle c\) számát meghatározhatjuk az Euler-féle poliédertételből: az \(\displaystyle l+c=e+2\) összefüggés alapján \(\displaystyle c=33+2-14=21\). Könnyen meggondolható az is, hogy ilyen test csak úgy jöhet létre, hogy csúcsaiból a kocka élei közül három páronként kitérő élre esik egy-egy, a többi kilenc élre pedig kettő-kettő.
