Megoldás. Rendezzük 0-ra az egyenletet:

\(\displaystyle x^2-x+y^2-y+1-xy=0.\)

Szorozzuk be 2-vel:

\(\displaystyle 2x^2-2x+2y^2-2y+2-2xy=0.\)

Csoportosítsuk a tagokat:

\(\displaystyle (x^2-2x+1)+(y^2-2y+1)+(x^2-2xy+y^2)=0,\)

amiből

\(\displaystyle (x-1)^2+(y-1)^2+(x-y)^2=0.\)

Ez pontosan akkor 0, ha minden tagja 0, vagyis \(\displaystyle (x-1)^2=0\), \(\displaystyle (y-1)^2=0\) és \(\displaystyle (x-y)^2=0\), vagyis \(\displaystyle x=y=1\).

Megjegyzés: Ha valakinek nincs egyéb ötlete, és a másodfokú egyenlet megoldóképletével próbálkozik, akkor pl. \(\displaystyle y\)-ra ezt kapja:

\(\displaystyle y_{1,2}=\frac{x+1\pm\sqrt{-3(x-1)^2}}{2}.\)

Mivel a gyökjel alatt nem állhat negatív szám, és \(\displaystyle (x-1)^2\geq0\), ezért az egyetlen lehetséges megoldás az, ha \(\displaystyle x-1=0\). Ekkor \(\displaystyle x=y=1\).
