Megoldás: Jelölje a kör sugarát r, a körcikk területét t, kerületét k, ívhosszát pedig i. Tudjuk, hogy t=\frac{ri}{2}=100, azaz i=\frac{200}{r}.

Tudjuk továbbá, hogy k=2r+i=2r+\frac{200}{r}, ennek keressük a minimumát. Ez nyilván ugyanakkor minimális, amikor a fele az.

A számtani és a mértani közép összefüggése alapján tudjuk: \frac{r+\frac{100}{r}}{2}\geq\sqrt{r\cdot\frac{100}{r}}=10. Egyenlőség akkor van, ha r=\frac{100}{r}, vagyis r=10.

A kerület akkor a legnagyobb, ha r=10.
