Megoldás. Mivel 1 gallon kb. 3,78 liter, valamint 1 (angol) mérföld kb. 1,61 km, az autó fogyasztása:

$\displaystyle \frac{6{,}5~\text{liter}}{100~\rm km}=\frac{6{,}5\cdot \frac{1}{3{,}78}~\text{gallon}}{100\cdot \frac{1}{1{,}61}~\text{mérföld}}\approx 0{,}0277~\frac{\text{gallon}}{\text{mérföld}}.$

Ez annyit jelent, hogy 15 gallon benzinnel az autó $\displaystyle \frac{15}{0{,}0277}\approx 540$ mérföldet képes megtenni.
