Problem G. 704. (March 2020)

G. 704. When Torricelli's experiment is carried out at sea level, then the mercury column is 76 cm high. However, on a very high hill the height of the mercury is only 40 cm. How high is the hill?

Megoldás. A légnyomás arányos a higanyoszlop magasságával, tehát a 40 cm-hez tartozó érték a tengerszinten (átlagosan) mérhető 1013 hPa-nak csak \(\displaystyle \frac{40}{76}=0{,}52\)-szerese, vagyis 533 hPa. Az interneten (is) megtalálható a tengerszint feletti magasság és a légnyomás közötti kapcsolat (lásd pl. https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Légnyomás vagy Budó Ágoston: Kísérleti fizika I. kötet 245. old.). Ezek szerint a kérdéses hegy kb. 5000 m magas.
