K. 183. The measures of the sides of two rectangles in centimetres are whole numbers. One of the areas is 18 cm2, and the other is 7 cm2. The difference of the perimeters is 6 cm. Find the lengths of the sides of the rectangles.

Megoldás. Legyen az egyik téglalap oldalainak hossza a és b, a másiké pedig c és d. Tudjuk, hogy ezek pozitív egész számok, továbbá ab=18, cd=7, 2(a+b)-2(c+d)=6. Ez utóbbi így is írható: (a+b)-(c+d)=3.

Az a, b lehetséges értékei:

a 1 2 3 6 9 18
b 18 9 6 3 2 1

A c, d lehetséges értékei:

c 1 7
d 7 1

Az összes lehetséges eset száma ezek szerint 12. Mindegyik esetben képezzük a megfelelő összegék különbségét. Az egyedüli megoldás, hogy az egyik téglalap oldalainak hossza 2 cm és 9 cm., a másiké pedig 1 cm és 7 cm.
