Megoldás. A két négyzetszám különbsége \(\displaystyle n+201-(n+125) = 76\). Két négyzetszám különbsége pedig szorzattá bontható \(\displaystyle a^2-b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)\) alakban. A \(\displaystyle 76\) prímtényezős felbontása: \(\displaystyle 76=2^2\cdot19\). Így a lehetséges szorzattá bontásai: \(\displaystyle 76 = 1\cdot76 = 2\cdot38 = 4\cdot19\). Tudjuk, hogy \(\displaystyle a+b>a-b\), így a felbontások egyértelműen meghatározzák \(\displaystyle a-b\) és \(\displaystyle a+b\) értékét. Ha \(\displaystyle a-b = 1\), akkor \(\displaystyle 2b + 1 = 76\), de ekkor \(\displaystyle b\) nem egész. Ha \(\displaystyle a-b = 2\), akkor \(\displaystyle 2b + 2 = 38\), ahonnan \(\displaystyle b = 18\), \(\displaystyle a = 20\), a két négyzetszám \(\displaystyle 324\) és \(\displaystyle 400\), \(\displaystyle n = 199\).
