Megoldás: Legyen az eredeti hasáb alapéleinek hossza a cm, a másik élek hossza b cm. A levágás után megmaradó rész térfogata: (a-4)^.a^.b=126=2^.3^2.7. A lehetséges szorzótényezők közül (1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 14, 18, 21, 42, 63, 126) csak a 14 és a 18, illetve a 7 és a 3 között 4 a különbség. Az első kettő együtt nem szerepelhet a szorzatban, mert 126 nem osztható 4-gyel. Tehát a=7, b=6 jöhet csak szóba, és ezek meg is felelnek.
