Problem P. 4304. (December 2010)

P. 4304. There are more spectral lines in the emission spectrum of glowing gases, than in the absorption spectrum of cold gases. So there might be several lines which can be found in the emission spectrum, and which cannot be seen in the absorption spectrum of cold gases. Why?

Megoldás. Hideg gázban a (szoba hőmérsékleti \(\displaystyle kT\) termikus energiához képest) magasan gerjesztett állapotok a Boltzmann-eloszlás miatt gyakorlatilag nincsenek jelen, ezért az elnyelési színképből hiányoznak például a két, magasan gerjesztett állapot közötti átmenetnek megfelelő vonalak, amelyek az izzó gáz emissziós színképében viszont megtalálhatók.
