Problem C. 817. (September 2005)

C. 817. Having calculated that 62+8=44, Clare noticed that 662+88=4444 was also true. Is it true for every n that (\underbrace{6\dots6}_{n\text{ digits}}{)}^2+
\underbrace{8\dots8}_{n\text{ digits}}=\underbrace{4\dots4}_{2n\text {digits}}?

Megoldás. Azt állítjuk, hogy (\underbrace{6\dots6}_{n~{\rm jegy}})^2+ \underbrace{8\dots8}_{n~{\rm jegy}}=\underbrace{4\dots4}_{2n~{\rm jegy}} minden pozitív egész n-re igaz. Bizonyítás: teljes indukcióval.

n=1-re igaz. Tételezzük fel, hogy n-re igaz. Bizonyítandó, hogy n+1-re is igaz: (\underbrace{6\dots6}_{n+1~{\rm jegy}})^2+ \underbrace{8\dots8}_{n+1~{\rm jegy}}=\underbrace{4\dots4}_{2n+2~{\rm jegy}}. Legyen a=\underbrace{1\dots1}_{n~{\rm jegy}}, b=\underbrace{1\dots1}_{2n~{\rm jegy}}. Azt kell bizonyítani, hogy ha (6a)2+8a=4b (1), akkor 6.(10a+1))2+8(10a+1)=4(100b+11). Kis átalakításokat végezve, majd b helyére az (1)-ből következő 9a2+2 kifejezést írva:

36.(10a+1)2+80a+8=400b+44,

9(100a2+2a+1)+20a+2=100b+11,

900a2+200a+11=900a2+200a+11.

Ez azonosság, tehát az állítás teljesül (n+1)-re is. Vagyis minden n-re teljesül.
