C. 912. Is there a right-angled triangle in which the lengths a, b, c of the sides are integers, (a,b,c)=1 and the length of one median is 7.5?

Megoldás: Jelölje a és b a két befogót, c pedig az átfogót.

I. eset: az átfogóhoz tartozó súlyvonal hossza 7,5. Ez egyben c/2 is, vagyis ekkor c=15, és így

a2+b2=15.

Mivel 15 oszható 3-mal, ezért a bal oldal is osztható 3-mal. Egy négyzetszám 3-mal osztva 0 vagy 1 maradékot ad, így két négyzetszám összege csak akkor lehet 3-mal oszható, ha mindkét szám oszható 3-mal. Ekkor viszont (a,b,c)\neq1.

II. eset: az egyik befogóhoz tartozó súlyvonal hossza 7,5. Legyen ez mondjuk a b oldal. Ekkor

a^2+\frac{b^2}{4}=7,5^2,

ahonnan

(2a)2+b2=152.

A jobb oldal osztható 3-mal, így az előző esethez hasonlóan azt kapjuk, hogy 2a és b is 3-mal oszható, így a és b is, tehát (a,b,c)\neq1.

Nincs ilyen derékszögű háromszög.
