Megoldás. Jelöljük (perc egységekben) \(\displaystyle x\)-szel azt az időt, amennyi alatt gyalog felérünk a legfelső emeletre, \(\displaystyle y\)-nal a gyalog lefelé haladás idejét, \(\displaystyle u\) és \(\displaystyle v\) pedig legyen a lift fel- és lefelé haladásának ideje. A megadott számadatok szerint

\(\displaystyle x+v=4,\)

\(\displaystyle u+y=3,\)

\(\displaystyle u+v=1.\)

Ha az első két egyenlet összegéből kivonjuk a harmadik egyenletet, a folyamatos gyaloglás összes idejére \(\displaystyle x+y=6~\rm perc\) adódik.
