Problem K. 186. (November 2008)

K. 186. A 11×11 cm square can be tiled with two different sets of 5 rectangles whose sides in centimetres are integers, with each length from 1 to 10 cm occurring exactly once. (Tiling means that the rectangles are not allowed to reach over the edge of the square, and they cannot even partly overlap.) Find both tilings.

Megoldás. Az alábbi ábrákhoz hasonló elrendezésben keressük a megoldásokat! Észrevehetjük, hogy a négyzet oldalán fekvő két-két téglalap-oldal összege így 11 cm lesz, azaz a 6+5, 4+7, 3+8, 2+9, 10+1 párokkal dolgozva találjuk meg a lehetséges téglalapoldalakat. A két lehetséges lefedés (a belső téglalap mindkét esetben 4×7-es):
